Type…type…type…DONE!
Six months, 82+ people interviewed, 200+ interview hours, and more research than I’d care to remember, the manuscript is finished.
There are more than 100 wonderful photographs and more than 100,000 words — most of them from Steelers (from Hall of Famers to less-heralded starters to backups) and ex-coaches and ex-publicity directors and even the longtime trainer.
More info will be coming in springtime: Follow this blog (shameless promotion) weekly then, because already I have written up tales from each sitdown interview. Those, I’m still typing up. About 40 of them to this point.
Thanks, perhaps prematurely, to the interviewees, the photographers, the publishers, the authors upon whom I leaned and especially my friends and family for their assistance, well wishes, editing and, most of all, enduring me through this process.
Hope, if everything works out well, folks enjoy the book when it comes out next fall. There is a ton of information, details, their stories in the book that I didn’t know, and I’ve been around the Steelers — in their locker rooms, at their facilities, at their practices and games, talking with them, playing tennis against some, even going to religious worship services with one — for a lot of my life.

Steve Furness, for one.
I know I played against Jon Kolb’s brother and a coupla wives. Somewhere in the back of my mind I sorta remember Steve bringing somebody — Banaszak? — and playing doubles once. But I was 13-15, and that was a lonnnng time ago.
